Mood Music: Action Sequences

Ya'll have some great taste in love songs! And much happier tastes than myself...who knew there were happy love songs?

Next up: action sequences! This could be big, climatic battles or intense chase scenes or just about anything that gets your/the reader's heart pumping! What songs do you use to get you in the butt-kicking, heart-racing, feet-pounding mood? Do you have particular songs that you've choreographed battles to?

For action sequences, I am in LOVE with ES Posthumus. Especially:

The rise and fall of all their instruments just makes you want to swing a sword around and run over a battlefield, eh?

This one is usually easier to figure out for me than the romance songs. For my big bad chase scene at the end Stabbing Westward's Shame, for the fight scene, Within Temptation's It's The Fear.

I listen to a lot of Evanesence for fight scenes, actually. Or really tense moments.

That music is pretty intense!

I've lately written a really tense scene and used "There Goes My Hero" by the Foo Fighters. It's not really action-y, but it fit perfectly with the mood of the piece.

I don't really do a lot of music with writing, I find it sort of distracting. But I like the idea of pairing music up with pivotal scenes. I'll have to give it some thought.

Frankie -- I haven't heard of Stabbing Westward or Within Temptation; I'll have to look them up!

Natalie -- Evanescence is AMAZING.

Mariah -- Foo Fighters = Classic

L&L -- Matching up songs with scenes is definitely a good time-waster ;)

Yeah, that's awesome! Kind of a Carmina Burana with a rock beat. Love it. :)

For epic battle scenes, I'm a fan of Gustav Holst's Mars. It has a really awesome tension building feel to it.

I'm with Lisa & Laura on the no music thing - unless it is classical then I'm good. I'd rather have total silence if I had my way.

Renee -- I think that's why I love ES Posthumus; the tension building behind it. The anticipation.

KM -- I usually don't have music playing while I write either, but if I get stuck I turn something on for inspiration bursts.

Oooh yeah Evanescence is good too, but I usually use their songs for emotional moments-like right after the big fight or in the moments leading up to or anticipating it.

Im really starting to dig ES Posthumus, might have to add that to my list.
