Inspirational Nugget of the Day: Moon Harvesting

So remember that Inspirational Post I did a little while back, about intergalatic space travel?

Turns out that wasn't the end of it. Very soon, it seems, we could all be powered on Moon-harvested biofuels.

From a writer's POV, what is the outlook from here? A new form of biofuel or the beginning of the end of the Moon's ever-loving presence in our sky? Apocalypse or life-saving venture?

Inspiration, AHOY!

This is inspirational for my book! Maybe I can work it into the sequel.

I hope the moon doesn't go away...

Biofuel:
Fuel such as methane produced from renewable biological resources such as plant biomass and treated municipal and industrial waste.

Although I think this definition is a bit of a stretch, it's doubtful the mined minerals mentioned in the article you link to would be viewed as biofuel resources.

Going to the moon is more realistic than in my youth, when the race to and landing on the moon actually took place. A lot of what the article says is hype or best case scenario. If I live a couple of more decades, I might see moon-mining in my lifetime. It's more realistic in your lifetime than mine. Yes, now is the time to write the stories. You might be the Jules Verne of the 21st. Century. I hope I am wrong and it comes as soon as possible. I've waited decades to see us go back to the moon, after once thinking I might visit the moon in my lifetime, as a passenger.

Biofuel creation on the moon, whether for moon purposes or earth purposes will be a far more complicated and long term process. Again, it could happen in your lifetime, but doubt it will even begin in my lifetime.

Never stop searching and dreaming. Especially when grumpy, crabby old guys come along, who dreamed your dreams and believed in them, only to see nothing happen, for reasons I will skip here. Good luck! Write-On!

To...to privatize the moon itself. Oh good lord. I was cringing from that line, and it just kept going...

From a writer's perspective, though, I would tend toward the end of the Moon's ever-loving presence portion of the program. But then, I tend to be a darker sort in my writings. Possibly could spice things up with some sort of space pirates - where there's unregulated profiteering going on, after all, there's always room for banditry!

As to the article itself though, regardless of what this company desires..."can do as soon as 2013" seems a little...overly optimistic. But then, maybe I'm underestimating the power of profit's motivations...
